Dr. Joan Durrant
Founder and Executive Director
I am a Developmental Psychologist and Professor Emerita of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. I founded Positive Discipline in Everyday Life in 2017 to coordinate and oversee the rapid growth and widespread implementation of Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting, which I created in 2007. Since then, I have retired from university life and focus full-time on working with the PDEL team to provide high-quality training across Canada and in other countries.

Naomi Curtis
Administrative Assistant
I organize and maintain PDEL’s databases, address inquiries, assist Trainers, and provide administrative support to the organization and its staff. Working with PDEL allows me to pursue my passion for supporting children and their families as I complete my degree in Psychology at the University of Winnipeg.

Abigail Dessler
Technical Assistant
I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work and have experience providing advocacy and support to families. In my role at PDEL, I process the evaluation data that helps us continually strengthen PDEP. I also create detailed evaluation summaries so that Facilitators receive feedback on the programs they deliver. Additionally, I assist in the formatting and creation of program materials and provide technical support for the team.

Gia Ly Jackson
Training and Logistics Coordinator
I hold a Master’s degree in Family Social Sciences and I have a background in early childhood education. I coordinate PDEP trainings and support the collection and analysis of evaluation data. As the mother of a resourceful young child and I find it a wonderful and exciting privilege to watch her grow into her own person.

Janice MacAulay
Director of Operations
I bring many years of experience working in the voluntary sector to this position – first as Parent Education Coordinator at a community-based family resource program, followed by a long association with the Canadian Association for Family Resource Programs (now Families Canada), where I began as Project and Research Director before serving as Executive Director for over a decade. I now oversee PDEL’s daily operations to ensure efficiency and integrity in all of its work.

Jean Tinling
Director of Program Implementation and Training
I was an early years teacher for 30 years, followed by 12 years as Director of Family Programs at Mosaic Newcomer Family Resource Network. I am a member of PDEL’s Program Development Team and Core Training Team. I guide the implementation of PDEP across Canada, overseeing the training and mentorship of new Facilitators and supporting them after certification.

Cyma Tolaj
Project and Finance Officer
I hold a Master’s degree in Sociology. I provide operational support to PDEL, coordinating and monitoring project plans for multiple funders, writing contracts and partnership agreements, and tracking budgets for all of PDEL’s international and domestic projects.
